Household with Spot Electricity Pricing

Heat Water When Electricity Prices Are Lowest

Yellow Grid is the ideal solution for households using spot electricity pricing and looking to automatically reduce hot water heating costs.

Every day, the system analyses electricity market prices and automatically schedules water heating during the most cost-effective periods. The control system operates with 15-minute intervals — evaluating a total of 96 intervals per day and selecting the cheapest ones.

This allows Yellow Grid to take advantage of periods with low or even negative electricity prices, which are becoming increasingly common, especially during periods of high renewable energy production.

The solution takes into account:

  • current spot electricity prices,

  • high and low distribution tariff rates,

  • historical household consumption,

  • the current water temperature in the boiler.

Yellow Grid uses proprietary algorithms and continuously learns the household’s consumption patterns. This enables the system to optimise water heating without reducing user comfort.

An electric boilers is one of the largest electricity consumers in a household and therefore offers significant savings potential. Typical savings on water heating costs range between 25–35%.

The device is installed directly on the power supply to the water heater and does not require complicated electrical modifications. Connectivity is provided via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, with an LTE version including a prepaid SIM card also available.

Yellow Grid offers a fast return on investment and a simple way to start benefiting from dynamic electricity pricing.
