For Installers

Become a Yellow Grid Installation Partner

Yellow Grid is building a network of installation partners and qualified electricians who want to offer their customers a modern solution for intelligent water heating control.

The solution has been designed for fast and straightforward installation, without complex configuration or integration with other systems.

Simple Installation

Yellow Grid is compatible with both new and existing electric boilers.

Two installation methods are supported:

  • boilers connected via a standard mains plug,

  • boilers with a fixed electrical connection.

Installation includes connecting the control unit, mounting the temperature sensor and registering the device with the Yellow Grid cloud platform.

A typical installation can be completed in approximately 30 minutes.

Minimal Configuration

Once the electrical installation is complete, the device is registered using a QR code.

The installer or the customer then enters basic information about the supply point, the boiler and, if applicable, the solar PV system.

All further optimisation is performed automatically by the Yellow Grid cloud platform.

Benefits for Installation Partners

  • Easy-to-install solution with no complex system integration

  • Fast installation

  • Minimal configuration

  • Remote device management

  • Automatic software updates

  • Technical support from Yellow Grid

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for installation companies and qualified electricians who want to expand their portfolio with a modern solution for intelligent electric boiler control.

Applicants must hold the qualifications required by the applicable national regulations for electrical installations.

How to Install Yellow Grid

I. Installaling the Control Unit

The Yellow Grid control unit can be connected to an existing electric boiler in one of two ways.

1a. Boilers with a Plug

If the boiler is connected using a standard mains plug, the Yellow Grid unit is simply installed between the electrical outlet and the boiler. Installation is quick and does not require any modifications to the electrical installation.

1b. Boilers with a Fixed Electrical Connection

If the boiler is permanently wired, the Yellow Grid unit is installed in the power supply cable between the electrical distribution board and the boiler. This installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable regulations.

The wiring diagram is available here.

2. Installing the Temperature Sensor

The installation also includes a temperature sensor, which is attached to the hot water pipe leaving the boiler. This allows the solution to monitor the current water temperature and optimise the water heating schedule more accurately.

4. Connecting to the Yellow Grid Cloud

After installation, the control unit connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi, Ethernet or LTE, depending on the selected device version.

The device is then registered with the Yellow Grid solution using a simple setup wizard.

During the initial setup, the user enters information about the supply point, distribution tariff, electric boiler and, if applicable, the solar PV system. This information enables Yellow Grid to create an individual water heating schedule tailored to the specific household.

Once the registration is complete, no further configuration is required.

The connection guide is available here.

5. A New Heating Schedule Every Day

Every day, the Yellow Grid cloud platform creates an individual water heating schedule for each connected boiler.

5a. Households Using Spot or Dynamic Electricity Pricing

The solution automatically evaluates:

  • current electricity prices,

  • distribution charges,

  • historical household consumption,

  • the current water temperature in the boiler.

Based on this information, Yellow Grid creates a heating schedule that uses the most cost-effective periods during the following day.

5b. Households with a Solar PV System

If the installation includes a solar PV system, Yellow Grid uses a different optimisation algorithm.

Instead of analysing electricity prices, the system evaluates the forecasted solar PV generation based on weather forecasts and expected solar irradiance. Water heating is then scheduled primarily during periods when the highest solar energy production is expected.

In both cases, the day is divided into 96 fifteen-minute intervals, and the solution automatically selects the intervals that are most suitable for the specific household.

Before the start of each new day, the schedule is automatically sent to the control unit.

6. The Solution Continuously Learns

Regardless of the selected optimisation method, Yellow Grid continuously learns the characteristics of each boiler and the household's hot water consumption patterns.

It analyses, for example:

  • how quickly the water heats up,

  • the household's hot water consumption profile,

  • how quickly the boiler cools down,

  • the hot water reserve required to maintain user comfort.

This enables Yellow Grid to continuously refine the heating schedule and automatically adapt to changes in household behaviour and seasonal conditions.
